Public repositories attach without connecting, by typing
owner/repo. They are read-only until you connect: nothing can be pushed.Connect GitHub
You pick the account and the repositories on GitHub’s own pages. Nothing is pasted into Alpha.1
Open the connect card
In a session, click GitHub in the workspace header, beside Share, or open the workspace’s + menu and choose GitHub. On the home screen, click the repos chip in the composer instead. Both show Connect GitHub.
2
Click Connect GitHub
GitHub opens in a new browser tab, listing your own account and every organization you belong to. If your browser blocks the new tab, this page goes to GitHub instead. On the home screen, your unsent prompt and staged repositories are kept for your return.
3
Pick the account and its repositories
Choose an account, then All repositories or Only select repositories, and confirm. Alpha reaches only the repositories you grant here.
4
Come back to Alpha
GitHub returns you to the page you left: a session opens on its GitHub tab, and the home screen reopens the repos popover. The tab you started from picks up the connection when you switch back to it.
If the card says “GitHub isn’t set up on this server yet — ask whoever runs it.”, GitHub isn’t turned on for your Alpha. You can still add public repositories by name.
Add organizations and more accounts
Alpha signs in to GitHub as you, and works in every account you’ve connected: your own and any organizations. To connect another, click Add account wherever your accounts are listed: the empty GitHub tab, Add repository, the manage popover, or add account in the home repos popover. GitHub opens on the same account chooser in a new tab, and the account appears when you switch back. If you connect an organization but not your own account, Alpha asks “Also connect your own account? Repositories under harbor-dev aren’t reachable until you do.” Click Connect harbor-dev or Not now. The footer of the GitHub tab shows the login your commits are authored as. Click manage beside it to change what Alpha can reach:
Disconnect asks “Disconnect GitHub? The app stays installed on GitHub (remove it there if you want). Attached repos stay, but push/PR and private access stop working.” To withdraw access on GitHub’s side too, uninstall it from each account’s settings page before you disconnect.
Find your way around the GitHub tab
The GitHub tab is the session’s view of its repositories, with a count of them on its label. Open it from the header’s GitHub button or the + menu. Only the session’s owner sees it; people you share the session with don’t.
Branches, commits and pull requests covers each part in use. While the tab is visible it reads the repositories again every 12 seconds, every 3 while a clone runs, and shortly after the agent changes files. Opening the tab fetches from GitHub when the last fetch is more than a minute old. Refresh from GitHub fetches at once.
A repository that lives at
/workspace itself, such as one you made with Publish to GitHub from the whole workspace, shows Unlink workspace instead of Remove. It asks “Unlink the workspace from harbor-sailing/harbor-site? Files and git history stay in the sandbox.”, and only detaches the repository from the session’s GitHub tab.
Add a repository
Each repository lands at/workspace/<name> on the session’s machine, or /workspace/<owner>-<name> if the name is taken. A session holds at most 5 per session, a setup’s included.
- In a session
- Before the session starts
Open the GitHub tab and click Add repository, or choose Add repository… in the repo switcher.Search across your connected accounts, or narrow to one with the chips. The list shows 50 at a time, then show more. For a repository that isn’t listed, including anyone’s public one, type its full name and press Enter. Click a repository and it clones straight away.
What does the agent get?
Once you connect, the agent in every session you own works with GitHub as you:
A running session picks up a new connection at once; a sleeping one gets it when it wakes. If the agent needs GitHub before you’ve connected, it never asks for a token. It posts a card with its reason.
Connect GitHub opens the session’s GitHub tab. Once you’ve connected, the card reads “GitHub is connected” and “git and gh are signed in for the agent from its next turn.” Click Tell the agent to continue to let it pick up where it stopped.
If a repository won’t attach

Next steps
Branches, commits and pull requests
Commit, push and open a pull request from the GitHub tab, and see why a button is disabled.
Setups
Clone your repositories and install dependencies once, so new sessions boot ready.
Work on an existing repository
Take harbor-api from the home screen to an open pull request, step by step.
Secrets
Give the agent the other keys your repository needs, without pasting them into a message.
